Your flexible pathway to a practical tax qualification

The Tax Technician qualification is the tax qualification of choice for those seeking a solid foundation in the practicalities of tax.  A one year part-time course with a flexible modular structure, you study the modules you want at a pace that suits you.

If you already have a professional qualification, it is an ideal way to develop your tax knowledge whilst building your CPD hours.  By completing all 4 modules, you will complete 120 hours CPD

Online Summer Course 2017

As it is a modular qualification, you can also choose to complete exam(s) over 4 exam sittings in August 2017, April 2018,  August 2018 and April 2019.  So perhaps you might like to register for one or two modules now, complete the lectures online and then take these exams in August 2017?

However, we highly recommend that you speak to us to discuss your individual exam sitting preferences so that we can advise you on the best course(s) for you.

What will I achieve through this qualification?

Whether you want to develop your tax knowledge, or refresh your existing tax knowledge, this practical qualification will enable you to:

  • Gain an understanding of the practical operation of the Irish tax system and tax rules
  • Evaluate and interpret information to identify the tax charges that arise for individuals and companies
  • Calculate income tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax and capital acquisitions tax, VAT and payroll liabilities with particular emphasis on claiming reliefs and exemptions
  • Understand the payroll and compliance requirements for individuals and companies including the completion of tax returns.

What will I study?

The course consists of 4 modules:

  • Income Tax & Payroll Fundamentals
  • Capital Taxes Fundamentals
  • Corporation Tax Fundamentals
  • VAT Fundamentals

**students may choose to sit only individual modules in which case a certificate of completion will be awarded on completion of each module. 

How will I learn?

The course is designed around you - choose to attend weekend lectures in Dublin or Limerick (Winter Course only), or opt for our online self-study option where lectures are recorded and can be taken at a time that suits you. 

All modules are delivered in tutorial format by experts in their field, with an emphasis on using case studies and examples to bring tax to life.

How will I be examined?

Each module is examined through a three hour written exam.

How quick you complete the qualification depends on you.  There are two exam sittings each year - April and August. You can elect to sit one or more exam(s) in an exam sitting, but must complete the qualification within a 2 year timeframe. 


There are no exemptions available for the Tax Technician examinations.
